Event - Bishop Martyn's Visit
9 May 2016
We were delighted to welcome the Rt Revd Martyn Snow, Bishop of Leicester, to our school on Monday 9 May 2016, as part of his pilgrimage in the week leading up to his welcome service at Leicester Cathedral.
He was given a tour of the school and joined us for worship time and tea and homemade cake. He was impressed with the vibrant, happy classroom environments and spoke to many children about their Religious Education.
The older children had prepared a special assembly for him which focused around collective worship on the theme of Inspirational People. They said the Bishop was inspirational because he has dedicated his life to helping others and sets a good example like Jesus did.
He also visited St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Waltham with our governor Canon Reverend Beverley Stark. The church is currently undergoing extensive renovation work and he spoke at length of the exciting plans to develop further links with our community.
We were thrilled to get TV coverage on local news channels and were especially proud of one of our Year 4 pupils who was a chorister at the Cathedral for the Bishop’s welcome service.
Mrs Hopkins, our Executive Headteacher, said: "We were thrilled Bishop Martyn chose us to visit and all felt proud and honoured that he showed so much interest in the work we are doing. His passion for supporting schools and his commitment to excellence in education for the children across the Diocese was evident and he spoke of real pride in representing our community over future years."
Louise Warner, Children and Families Officer for Leics Diocese, said: "We received a very warm welcome from the school and a thoughtful act of worship from the children. The maypole dancing we were able to enjoy was a wonderful treat. It was great to see the active relationship between the school and church. It will be exciting to see the further potential that the work being completed at the church will offer."
